Donald Pettit is a locally based artist with a 20 year background as a commercial artist/graphic designer, who started painting for himself 6 years ago. His first commission was the exterior murals for the Explorer’s Café as well as map making for the interior walls. Two almost sold out solo shows followed when invited to show at the Carriage House Gallery.

In this show he continues to search for a poetic vision of the natural world around us, “I am trying to find a balance between the visual chaos and the serenity of nature. I’ve always been fascinated by the dynamics of weather, the effects of light, the texture of the forest and the constant colour changes of the water, land and sky. I try to use different approaches to painting that best reflects the subject and hope to draw the viewer into the image. I enjoy the pursuit of painting in various ways to be better able to convey my response to the subjects.”

Donald’s influences include: Tom Thompson, Franz Johnson, David Milne, Turner, and illustrator N.C.Wyeth.

The opening night reception takes place on Fri. Sept, 10 between 7 and 9 P.M. The show continues until Oct.14.
