Huronia Museum is please to be hosting this event where the Creator’s Game, Lacrosse, is played as a Medicine Game.

Lacrosse was noted by the French Jesuits in the writing about the Wendat (Huron) people as a game of great importance, both socially and culturally.  Children learned physical skills to help them later in the life, sportsmanship and diplomacy and the game even sometimes served to bring resolution to issues between groups rather than entering a war.

On Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 2 – 5 pm we welcome Delmor Jacob and an impressive group of young men who will use traditional equipment and will wear traditional clothing as they demonstrate  “the Creator’s Game”.  The presentation will communicate the ritual and culture surrounding the game of lacrosse through an outdoor presentation of about 45 minutes in the field next to the village.  A lecture in the museum’s auditorium about the history and culture of lacrosse will follow.  A skills session is provided for newcomers who are interested this afternoon as well.  Through the day, four Warriors will circulate through the crown for pictures and questions on the history of the day.

Take a sneak peek here of what will be able to learn about next Saturday!

This event is free of charge thanks to the generosity of our sponsors:

Champlain Commemorations 2015, North Simcoe Business Development, Town of Midland, Town of Penetanguishene, Township of Tiny, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Tourism Simcoe County.
