Be a billet family for the Katimavik Youth Volunteer Group in Midland!

Huronia Musuem is very lucky to be a part of the local Katimavik project again this year.  We currently have two young people volunteering with us everyday until the end of the year.   Both Stephen and Benoit have been wonderfuly helpful with tasks around the museum and even in education programming.

Katimavik also has 8 other young people placed with other non-profit organizations and charities in the Midland area so they are seeking a total of 10 billeting households for 10 days from Friday, November 27th to  Sunday, December 6th, 2009.  There is also a $10 a day stipend for households hosting a Katimavik participant.

Discover Canada without ever leaving your living room!

Here is your chance to get to know a young person who is presently volunteering in your community while introducing them to your way of living!

WHAT?

Katimavik promotes civic engagement and fosters sustainable communities through challenging national youth service programs.  Participants between the ages of 17 and 21 live with 10 other youth from across the country in 2 or 3 communities. They commit to 6 or 9 month programs where they volunteer 28 to 35 hours a week for a variety of non-profit organizations.  As part of the Katimavik program, participants stay with a host family of the region in order to better understand their reality and culture. For some participants, this is also an excellent opportunity to benefit from a full-fledged linguistic immersion. This precious experience will be filled with discoveries for both your family and the participant(s). Each host family will receive a subsistence allowance for the host period.

WHEN?

Participants will be billeting for a total of nine (9) nights, beginning on Friday, November 27th, and ending on Sunday, December 6th, 2009.

Families are provided with a $10.00/night/participant stipend to offset the costs of taking them in.
