Everything Went Swimmingly

These pictures appeared in the October 20th, 1954 edition of the Free Press Herald on page 12.  It appears that the Awards ceremony was held in the basement of Bonar Presbyterian Church. Port McNicoll’s first Lions Club sponsored the swimming lessons for these young people. The captions that accompanied these photos are below each photo.

During the 1920’s and 30’s the CPR provided swimming lessons to village children through the Canadian Pacific Recreation Club. I’ve included a completion certificate awarded to my Great-Uncle, George Crooke, verifying that he had achieved standing as a Junior Advanced Swimmer in the summer of 1932
