Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman Sept. 12 – Film Series

7 PM – first film of the 2007 film series – tickets available at Huronia Museum at 6PM

The Last Hangman – Cast: Timothy Spall, Juliet Stevenson, Eddie Marson, Joyia Fitch, Clive Francis, Christopher Fulford

Described as “an emotionally powerful drama about the dirty business of capital punishment”, this is the tale of the end of an era. The film follows Pierrepoint from the day he gets his license to the day he retired. He’s a study in professionalism and a regular guy when out in public, married to originally unsuspecting Annie. He’s just a regular bloke, but one with a secret identity who’s the best in the world at his profession. That is, until the aftermath of the Nuremberg Trials and Pierrepoint became famous and his public life begins to impinge upon his private one. At a time when frontier justice seems to be making a comeback, this is gentle reminder of the burden of conscience that the death penalty places on society.
