The museums photographic collection contains many unidentified local images. If you have information on photos published here please comment below. We need names, locations, dates, and information relevant to the photos.
The four photos below come from the museum’s Free Press Archive. They are, in order, item #2006-90-4407, 4410, 4412 and 4413. The event was the Columbian Squires track meet at St. Joseph’s school in Penetanguishene. The description we have from the May 29, 1968 Free Press Herald is;
“The seventh annual Columbian Squires track meet held at St. Joseph’s School in Penetanguishene drew participants from seven area schools, — Sacred Heart and St. Mary’s of Midland; Corpus Christi and St. Joseph’s, Penetang; St. John’s, Waubaushene; Holy Cross, Lafontaine and this year a Protestant school — Bayview — from Midland.” We need your help filling in the names of these cheerleaders and which school they represent. BTW Sacred Heart won the day with the most points overall.

Thank you very much for letting us know the names! Great stuff!
I can definitely identify Photo #20. That is a team pic of the 1977-78 Midland Huronia Junior Civitan Major Bantams. Coached by Bob Colbourne, the Jr. Civitans won the Ontario Minor Hockey Association Bantam A championship that season. By happy coincidence, Midland was celebrating the town’s Centennial Year in 1978, and that April, the brand-new Centennial Arena opened during the OMHA final against Salt Fleet. Here are the people in the photograph:

Front row, left to right: Brian Moore, Todd Clarke, Bob Colbourne (coach), Pat Brodeur (captain), Bob Merkley (manager), Brad Copeland, Paul Tela.
Middle row, left to right: Pat Belanger, Paul Belanger, Ken Mugford, Paul Hahn, Danny Hall, Guy Forget, Mike Downer, Pat Adams, Gerry Borsa.
Back row, left to right: Mike Fountain (trainer), Steve Clarke (president, Huronia Junior Civitans).
BTW, in Photo 19, it is the same members of Midland’s ’78 provincial bantam champs celebrating their victory in street clothes.
Photo #12. I don’t have a date or year, but the person behind the CKMP mic is Bob (Chopper) Hendrickson. He was a local hockey player for such teams as the intermdiate Midland Flyers during the 1960s, as well as being a pretty-fair southpaw pitcher with the town’s baseball Indians. His brother, Jack, was even better. In fact, many who saw him play, consider Jack to be one of the best all-round athletes Midland ever produced. A defenceman, Jake, as he was called, had a long career in pro hockey, including a few brief stints guarding the blue line for the NHL’s Detroit Red Wings. As for Bob, he later pursued his passion for country and western music and actually had some of his songs recorded. There’s a photo and/or story about Chopper somewhere in the Free Press archives, from maybe the late ’60s or early ’70s, which highlights his success.
