Jim Ogilvie has spent the last 20 years living and working in the surrounding Georgian Bay area…. Owen Sound, Meaford, Coldwater and Midland and presently Perkinsfield. His rural background is reflected in his work. A computer graphics professional for the majority of his career he now translates his creative pursuits through his paintings and drawings.

“Today, although I still do sketches, my work is usually an evolution from a picture using a digital camera, then reworking selected images in Photoshop (sometimes drastically by recolouring and applying several filters) and from there, paint to canvas. The final piece is a hybrid of that process.”

“ Your range of style and topics are so diverse!” was the overwhelming response from an open house in December. DIVERSITY, the name of this exhibition, was taken from that feedback.

“This is a little different from the usual shows where an artist’s “Style” is the whole show. This is going to be a really exciting and fun exhibition. I’ve worked hard at creating a range of work for this exhibition that will have something for everyone.”

Jim also has paintings this year at the Barrie City Hall Rotunda, the Simcoe County Museum, the Ridgewest Gallery, the Barrie Library, and the Zephyr Gallery. You can reach Jim at

Dr. Andrew D. Nicholls, Associate Professor of History at Buffalo State University New York, delivered a dramatic history presentation to a crowd of close to 150 people at the 18th annual Huronia Museum fund-raising dinner, held at the Midland Legion on Saturday, April 18th, 2009. It was an overview of an upcoming book he is in the process of publishing. It covered topics of Samuel D. Champlain, the little-known incident of the Kirke brothers and the impact of Canada’s first war on the French and the Hurons. His presentation included personal anecdotes and thanks to many of the people who provided encouragement and leads such as Shirley Whittington and Paul Delaney, during his years working as a historical interpreter and staff supervisor at Sainte-Marie, as well as his former Midland Secondary School teachers.
Guests were presented with a gift of Paul Delaney and Dr. Nicholl’s first book, “After the Fire”.
The evening was well attended by many of the local politicians from as far away as Orillia. Eilleen Carroll, Minister of Culture and her husband, Kevin Carroll from Barrie attended as guests of Rod and Fran Ferguson and Grace and Miles Blackhurst. Among others in attendance from Peterborough were Martha Kidd, widow of the late Kenneth Kidd, who was responsible for the excavation of Sainte-Marie One and Professor of Anthropology at Trent University, Ms Susan Jamieson
Co-hosts for the evening were Miles Blackhurst, Chairman, and Jamie Hunter, Director of Huronia Museum.
A silent auction rounded out the evening and raised over $2000.00 for the museum.
